For the first time in months, it was light in the morning when I woke up. The reason is that we finally ended Daylight Savings Time. There are unconfirmed reports that we will no longer observe DST and it makes me very happy. I am tired of waking up when it’s dark outside. The problem is made worse by the fact that we are in the wrong time zone to begin with, and the sun rises later than in most places on the same latitude. We should move back another hour. Here are some startling examples:
1. Time difference between Yerevan and Vienna is -3 hours, the distanace is 2,400 km. The time difference between Yerevan and New Delhi is +1.5 hours (only +30 min in the summer!), while the distance is 3,245 km.
2. The entire country of Iran lies to the East of Armenia, yet they are 30 min behind us. There are many other countries that lie to the East but are behind Armenia, instead of being ahead.
3. Time difference between Armenia and Turkey (next-door neighbors) is -2 hours.
In short, getting rid of DST was a good idea but we need to go back another hour.
